Steven Willing is board certified in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology, with an MD from the Medical College of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has held faculty positions at the University of Louisville, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Indiana University where he taught and practiced diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. Since retiring in 2016, Dr. Willing now divides his time between homeschooling a teenage son, providing medical service at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, blogging at The Soggy Spaniel, and finishing his upcoming book, Superbia: The Paralyzing Power of Pride, The Healing Hope of Humility.
Biography
After graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University with a major in music, Dr. Steven Willing attended the Medical College of Georgia where he received his MD. Dr. Willing then secured an internship in pediatrics at the University of Virginia, a residency in diagnostic radiology at the Medical College of Georgia, and a fellowship in neuroradiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Willing went on to spend 20 years in academic medicine, first at the University of Louisville, followed by 9 years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and 6 years at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He also earned an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997.
During his academic career, Dr. Willing published over 50 papers in the areas of radiology, informatics, and management. He is the author of Atlas of Neuroradiology (W. B. Saunders, 1995) which was highly popular among radiology trainees of that decade.
After retiring from the practice of medicine in June of 2016, Dr. Willing now spends his time writing, blogging, traveling, and practicing medical mission work.
