Having earned degrees from Southern Evangelical Seminary (MDiv) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (ThM, PhD), he has published on world religions, ethics, and culture, with a special focus on pro-life apologetics. John is active in the pro-life community and in his home church in Pella, Iowa.

Rana earned a BS in chemistry with highest honors from West Virginia State College (now University) and a PhD in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry from Ohio University.
