Biography

Award-winning entrepreneur John van Leeuwen is CEO of Universal Matter, a company he co-founded with Dr. James Tour, professor of organic chemistry and nanotechnology at Rice University. For more than 10 years prior, John led EcoSynthetix, a company he also co-founded that became a recognized leader in renewable chemicals. John’s acquaintance with RTB began with the Alaska Cruise Conference in 2011, and his involvement has deepened since then. John and his wife Jennifer raised three children before her death from mesothelioma. Now two more young adult children have joined the family with his marriage to Cheryl. All five live in the Toronto area, where John also serves on the board of RTB Canada.
