After completing his PhD in history and philosophy of science (HPS) at Cambridge University, he was a research fellow at the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion. He teaches part-time in HPS at the University of Pittsburgh and is a fellow in Christianity and science at the Greystone Theological Institute in Pittsburgh.
