Question of the week: Do you believe that there is one true church established by Jesus Christ today?
My answer: There are many different denominations that qualify as the true church as defined by the New Testament. All true churches, like all human assemblies, are 100% populated by sinners. Thus, in all true churches, there will be hypocrisy and some individuals will teach incorrect doctrines. True churches adhere to all the essentials of the Christian faith—to the doctrines expounded in the Christian creeds—but permit freedom of differing beliefs in the nonessentials. This freedom is expressed in the many different denominations of Christendom. Christianity stands alone among the major religions of the world in encouraging a free-market exchange and testing of ideas and beliefs (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
