Erik P. Johnson received his PhD in molecular biology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he did research on the genetics of the E. coli bacteria. He then studied the integrase protein of the HIV virus at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. After a visiting professorship at the Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California, Erik worked as a scientist at a clinical laboratory, Quest Diagnostics, where he developed novel tests for the detection of infectious agents like avian influenza, tuberculosis, and HIV.

Erik is a scientific consultant in the field of infectious disease testing. He was the founding member of the UCSD chapter of Graduate Christian Fellowship, and enjoys answering apologetics questions from his Christian and non-Christian friends.
