A Christian Perspective on Brain-Computer Interfaces

Publication by Fazale “Fuz” Rana ( April 11, 2016 )

… on Earth, they immediately began to display symbolism. In fact, many archaeological sites are dominated with artistic and musical artifacts. The first modern humans had a compulsive need to produce art and music, activities that consumed precious resources yet had no survival value. Ultimately, it is this need that provides the underlying motivation behind the brain-computer interface projects at Plymouth University and UC Berkeley. The joy that Rosemary Johnson finally experienced when she could make music again exemplifies this desire and resonates with all of us.

Interpreting Creation, Part 5: Hermeneutical Principles Continued

Interpreting Creation, Part 5: Hermeneutical Principles Continued

Publication by Hugh Ross ( May 16, 2011 )

… Hermeneutic. This principle is based on the belief that God designed the Bible and nature to communicate His intended messages to every human being regardless of era, geography, race, ethnicity, or occupation. Consequently, any interpretation of the Bible that would make it impossible or extremely difficult for a particular people group to respond positively to its messages is likely incorrect.
This hermeneutic presumes, of course, that the particular group is not in universal rebellion against God’s authority over their lives. Rather, individuals within any group who are truly seeking God will be able to receive the Bible’s …

RTB's Position on Humanity and Hominids

RTB's Position on Humanity and Hominids

Publication by Jeff Zweerink ( July 4, 2007 )

… only affects the region surrounding Mesopotamia, those humans outside the Mesopotamian region were not judged by the flood. Further, (as implied by their cartoon) our model has God reneging on His promise to never send a local flood. RTB’s actual position is that man had yet to move beyond the Mesopotamian region before the flood; so even a local flood would extend judgment universally to all humankind. If it were conclusively shown that people had moved beyond the Mesopotamian region before the Genesis flood, this would alter RTB’s interpretation of Genesis 6-8. Regarding God’s faithfulness to …

Demystifying Evolution and the Species Problem

Blog by Anjeanette Roberts ( August 18, 2016 )

… human pair, Adam and Eve, created in the image of God. In his image he created them, male and female. And if you believe the scientific data that traces mitochondrial Eve to roughly 150,000 years ago and Y-chromosomal Adam to about the same time frame (plus or minus the range of error), then you believe that God created man and woman as a primordial pair. Yet if you look around today, you see immense diversity in the human population. Consider the differences of the major races and ethnicities. Compare some of the Australian island groups to Asian, Middle …

Can Science Test the Supernatural?

Blog by Joe Aguirre ( February 27, 2008 )

Time to move on. The probability discussion seems to have reached an impasse. Maybe by changing the question a bit we can make some progress.
Dr. Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education, has said (along with others), “You can’t put God in a test tube.” However, anyone familiar with Reasons To Believe knows that RTB scholars have carved out a niche in the apologetics landscape with a biblical and scientific creation model that answers the question in the title above in the affirmative.
In Origins of Life (page 33), authors Fuz Rana and Hugh …

The Times They Are A-Changin'

Blog by Guest Writer ( October 12, 2012 )

… faith.
Often individuals struggle with deep questions during that “second stage” of faith, as you call it. No doubt you’ve heard people share how a negative response to their genuine questions served as a catalyst in pushing them away from the faith.
Right. I think that’s almost a universal experience among Christians. Asking a question that implies some doubt about the truth of Christianity is sometimes treated by those within the church as unwelcome. I look at it differently. A normal, critical thinking person will have doubts when considering life, Christ, and his or her relationship with God …

Response to Michael Shermer, Part 1 (of 3)

Response to Michael Shermer, Part 1 (of 3)

Publication by Guest Writer ( July 24, 2009 )

… t make a difference for Shermer’s claims even if all philosophers of science adopt methodological naturalism and claim that proposing God as Designer lies outside the bounds science. It doesn’t matter whether or not appeals to consciousness, flagella, etc. to prove God‘s existence conform to methodological naturalism. The issue is whether the arguments themselves are sound, not whether scientifically based arguments for God‘s existence follow scientific protocol. Of course it is important to follow the proper scientific method to obtain the data used in certain arguments for the existence of God, what I’m claiming is …

Sidebar: Biblical Perspective on the Hominids
Fazale R. Rana
If humans are made in the image of God through His direct creative activity, then what is the proper biblical perspective on hominids or bipedal primates? The biblical model employed here views bipedal primates as separate species that have gone extinct since their creation. The genera Australopithecus, Kenyanthropus, and Paranthropus—all ape-like creatures—possessed limited intelligence, limited bipedal capability and, in some cases, extremely crude tools. The bipedal primates assigned to the Homo genus, such …

Why Do We Need Snowball Events?

Why Do We Need Snowball Events?

Blog by Hugh Ross ( August 5, 2019 )

… apparent challenge to biblical creation models for life history on Earth. In Isaiah 45:18, Isaiah says of God:

He did not create it [Earth] to be empty; but formed it to be inhabited.

In Psalm 104:24 the psalmist declares:

How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Snowball events are erasures of Earth’s life. Why would God erase most life from Earth if his intent is to fill Earth with abundant, diverse life? A recent paper published in Nature provides several reasons why.1
