Can You Show Me a Scientific Paper Saying the World Was Flooded?

by Hugh Ross
May 13, 2022

Question of the week: Can you show me one peer-reviewed scientific publication that says the world was flooded as described in the Bible? If you do, I will convert to Christianity.

My answer: I think you have an incorrect idea of what the Bible teaches about Noah’s flood. The Bible clearly refutes the global flood model (2 Peter 2:5, 2 Peter 3:6, and Psalm 104:6-9, for example). A flood story shows up in about 150 ancient cultures all around the world, implying that some kind of water event must have impacted humanity more than 12,000 years ago. The thought that it took about 7.5 months for the floodwaters to recede sufficiently so that Noah and his family and animals could exit the ark, implies that the flood occurred sometime during the last ice age (15,000–130,000 years ago). I have 5 chapters on Noah’s flood in my book, Navigating Genesis, where you will find many citations to the peer-reviewed scientific literature. I will be praying that you put the Bible and the Christian faith to a sufficiently thorough and honest test that will persuade you that both are true, and, hence, worthy of your conversion to Christianity.
