How Should a Christian Prepare for a Science Apologetics Ministry?
Question of the week:What brief advice would you give to a young Christian who is preparing for a science apologetics ministry?
My answer: God has revealed himself through two books: the book of Scripture and the book of nature. Both revelations are utterly trustworthy and reliable. However, because of our incomplete knowledge and understanding, anomalies in our attempts to integrate the two books are inevitable. Our faith will grow and strengthen as we research the anomalies and find that the pathways toward resolution always yield more evidence for God and the Christian faith. Diligent study of God’s two books will increasingly affirm that the more we learn and understand about nature, the more evidence we will uncover for the supernatural, super-intelligent handiwork of God. The more we learn and understand about the Bible, the more successful we will become at discovering and understanding hidden truths in the book of nature.
1 Peter 3:15 exhorts Christians to always be ready to share, with anyone who asks, the reasons for their hope in Jesus Christ with gentleness, respect, and a clear conscience. It has been my experience that if a Christian prepares sound, good reasons for their faith and hope in Jesus Christ and is committed to share those reasons with gentleness, respect, and a clear conscience, that Christian will experience God supernaturally orchestrating meetings with people for whom God has prepared them to receive and respond to those reasons. In our book, Always Be Ready,1 I document the evidence for this claim. A free chapter is available at reasons.org/ross.
