The Greatest Gift of All
Christmas is about giving—and receiving—gifts. Of course, the greatest gift we can receive is the one Christ Jesus gave us: His life.
During the Advent season we celebrate the Incarnation. Jesus, who is fully God, became fully human to dwell among us. His birth was not the Divine plan in and of itself, but only the beginning of it. The purpose of the Incarnation was for Jesus to live so that He could die. And it is through His sacrifice on the Cross that we have salvation. So when we celebrate Jesus’ birth, we should also remember His death. Jesus’ humanity bridged the chasm between God and human beings.
As Christians the greatest gift we can offer to others is the Gospel, and thus, the opportunity for another to enjoy the same gift we’ve received from God.
It is in this spirit, I want to call the reader’s attention to an interview that I did many years ago with Joe Aguirre, one of the editors at Reasons To Believe. This interview, published in the third issue of our old magazine Facts for Faith, describes my journey to belief in Jesus Christ and the role that science and Scripture played in my conversion: A gift that I gladly received and one that I gladly give. Merry Christmas!
