Steve Willing graduated from Emory University with a major in music at the age of 19, after which he attended the Medical College of Georgia where he received his MD. This was followed by an internship in pediatrics at the University of Virginia, residency in diagnostic radiology at the Medical College of Georgia, and fellowship in neuroradiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Steve went on to spend 20 years in academic medicine, first at the University of Louisville, followed by 9 years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and 6 years at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He also earned an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997.
During his academic career, Steve published over 50 papers in the areas of radiology, informatics, and management. He is the author of Atlas of Neuroradiology—highly popular among radiology trainees.
Steve retired from medical practice in June 2016, and now invests his time in writing, blogging, traveling, and medical mission work. His personal blog on science apologetics, The Soggy Spaniel, may be found at swilling.com, and he is hard at work on an upcoming book project titled Superbia: The paralyzing power of pride, the healing hope of humility.
