Glenn Wood

Glenn G. Wood (MD, MPH), is the chief operating officer for Lift Up America, the nonpolitical, nonreligious nonprofit that runs the Ambassadors of Compassion (AOC) student leadership program. He is also the resident expert on the scientific measurements validating the quality of the AOC program and works closely with pediatric and psychological experts at Johns Hopkins and Washington State University.

Dr. Wood graduated from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1979 and completed a residency in pediatrics and adolescent medicine at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas in 1982. He is board-certified in pediatrics and was the Chief of Pediatrics at South Austin Medical Center.

Glenn is the founder and medical director of Carousel Pediatrics. He is the author of The AIDS Epidemic: Balancing Compassion and Justice (1990), and has been interviewed on about 100 radio stations concerning research on health, family, and social issues.

He has written many newspaper articles on empirical research that have been published in more than 700 newspapers domestically, and about 100 newspapers internationally. These published research summaries include medical, psychological, social, and spiritual research.

Glenn has been practicing pediatric and adolescent care in Austin, Texas, since 1984 where he has cared for many indigent children, seeing firsthand the practical problems that families face at the beginning of the twenty-first century. His offices are innovative in that they are focused on care for underprivileged children who are on Medicaid or CHIP. He attempts to integrate various areas of medicine and push the preventive care model in medical, psychological, and social issues. Glenn’s offices include pediatric medical, dental, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and behavioral health divisions.

Glenn has taught apologetics in many venues since the 1980s. He also runs a private foundation and is an adviser and contributor to several Christian parachurch groups. He is married to Sonia and has four children and ten grandchildren.
